Background of the Study:
Reliable power supply is a cornerstone of business sustainability, especially in urban centers like Ibadan North. Chronic power outages and fluctuating energy supplies have disrupted business operations, leading to economic losses and reduced productivity (Ogun, 2023). The inadequacy of the power infrastructure has compelled businesses to rely on alternative sources, such as generators, which increases operational costs and environmental concerns (Adebayo, 2024). This study critically evaluates the relationship between power supply reliability and business sustainability in Ibadan North. It examines how inconsistent electricity supply affects business performance, investment decisions, and overall economic growth. Through surveys and interviews with business owners and energy experts, the research aims to quantify the economic impacts of power disruptions and identify strategies to improve energy efficiency and reliability (Folorunsho, 2025). The study also considers the role of government policies and private sector investments in enhancing the power supply infrastructure to support sustainable business growth.
Statement of the Problem:
Businesses in Ibadan North struggle with sustainability due to erratic power supply, which results in increased operational costs and diminished productivity. The lack of reliable electricity hampers business growth and competitiveness (Ogun, 2023). This study aims to uncover the extent of these challenges and explore potential solutions (Adebayo, 2024).

Research Questions:
- How does unreliable power supply affect business performance in Ibadan North?

Research Hypotheses:
- H₁: Unreliable power supply significantly impacts business productivity.
- H₂: High reliance on alternative power sources increases operational costs.
- H₃: Investment in power infrastructure improves business sustainability.
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it highlights the critical link between power supply and economic stability. Its findings will guide policymakers and business leaders in adopting strategies to enhance power reliability, thereby promoting sustainable business practices (Folorunsho, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to evaluating power supply and its effect on business sustainability in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State, focusing exclusively on energy-related challenges within this urban context.
